NEHS Partnering with My Class Cares

NEHS recently partnered with the My Class Cares organization, whose mission is to "inspire youth to care deeply for the well being of people throughout the world." We encourage NEHS chapters to consider participating in the programs developed by My Class Cares for service projects. The programs are outlined below:

Books of HopeBooks of Hope

This project asks participating school groups to write actual learning texts for use by students in Uganda. Participating students would create simple but accurate "texts," colorful teaching tools that may be as simple as alphabet books or more sophisticated like biographies. NEHS chapters could do the writing of the texts themselves or lead other groups in doing the work. For minimal expense, the books are then gathered, shipped to Uganda, and distributed.

Hopeful Voices

Hopeful VoicesThis project invites schools to download a collection of essays written by students from around the world (the essays have been translated and edited by My Class Cares). The essay booklet contains many ideas about how to utilize the essays in a variety of ways. NEHS chapters might consider doing fundraising activities; collected funds are distributed equally among a number of non-profit partners around the world.

For more information, visit the My Class Cares website, www.myclasscares.org. The partnership between NEHS and this organization has great potential to motivate many of our NEHS member groups.

If your NEHS chapters decide to dedicate service project efforts toward My Class Cares, we would ask that you let us know (nehs@niu.edu) of your efforts. We would also love to publicize these activities in The Museletter. Feel free to submit articles and pictures to us!
