The Museletter
The Museletter has been the NEHS online newsletter since 2006. Written by and for student members and Faculty Advisors, each issue has carried Society news, chapter activity ideas, important reminders, and scholarship information. Past issues of The Museletter are being archived and will remain available to chapters for reference.
NEHSXpress
Starting September 1, 2010, a new, more timely newsletter, NEHSXpress, is being distributed via email to chapters on a monthly basis. Each edition will provide chapters up-to-date and useful information that will highlight what chapters are doing and provide suggestions for what others might emulate. However, The Museletter will continue, but with a new emphasis.
The Museletter
The new NEHS Museletter will now be an annual publication, appearing in the spring, that will highlight outstanding chapters, student achievements, and Society projects. With the addition of Outstanding Chapter Awards and Chapter Project Grants, The Museletter will be the publication point for the celebration of these new awards. Additionally, The Museletter will continue to be a place for student writing publication, an outlet for NEHS student members to see their best writing in a national publication. We encourage students in particular to think of this publication as one of their primary publication opportunities for writing. The Museletter is the place for chapters to enthusiastically show their pride in the work being done, a place for public recognition that NEHS is making a difference in schools and communities, nationally and internationally. Be bold; toot your own horn; shine the spotlight on your chapter!
Chapters that receive awards and grants will be required, as a part of their recognition, to send articles and pictures of their chapter activities and how they have positively impacted their communities (Outstanding Chapter Awards) or to send project ideas, evidence of successful completion, and the financial details (Project Grants). Additionally, other chapters are strongly encouraged to send pertinent articles and pictures of chapter activities, showcasing the excellent work being done across the Society.
Guidelines for The Museletter
- Students may submit original works of fiction (short stories, poets, dialogues, scenes) or non-fiction (narratives, essays, opinions).
- All submissions must be made through the Faculty Advisor, who must approve of the quality and content, and then submitted via electronic format.
- Prose pieces should not exceed 200 words (excluding the author's name, school, and chapter name).
- Poetry should not exceed 125 words total (if multiple poems are submitted).
- Submit text as a doc or docx and images as separate jpg files.
- Send submissions to nehs@niu.edu by March 1, 2011, for publication in the spring.
All publication decisions are made by NEHS. No submissions will be returned; please make copies of all materials before submission. By submitting text and pictures to NEHS for possible publication, implicit permission is given to NEHS to reproduce and publish materials in any and all NEHS publications, including the website, www.nehs.us.
